The rhythm is simple and energetic, so it is one of the basic dances for beginners. There are some different variations, but the base is small steps and moves from the hips and pelvic area. There is no strict definition of Cha-Cha music, but it must have a steady 4/4 beat.

Salsa

Those who have ever seen the movie “Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights” are familiar with the techniques, flows, and music of this passionate dance. The Salsa originated in the Caribbean countries but had a strong African influence because the traditional dances of local people were mixed with dances of African slaves. As a result, a lot of basic salsa moves are named after birds, animals, or natural forces. The base of Salsa is stepping and shifting weight. The upper body remains stable while the moves come from hips, arms, and shoulders. The rhythm of music is a four-beat combination and there are millions of salsa style songs that you might find very entertaining. Salsa is called one of the most practiced social dances in the world today.

Bachata

One of the most sensual and slower Latin dances is Bachata that came from the Dominican Republic. Like many other dances of this genre, Bachata has a four-beat pattern. The base is formed by three steps to the side followed by a pause and this style is defined by a strong emphasis on body isolation and hip movements. There might be three of the main positions of a couple: open, semi-closed or closed position lead by different moves and figures of arms. The music of Bachata is very popular and there are many famous Latin singers whose songs are reaching top positions.

Tango

As the synonym of passion and Argentina, Tango is not losing its fame for decades. However, both Argentina and Uruguay are the home countries of Tango. This dance is an expression of grief, passion, pride, pessimism, love, and celebration withing every step, as a result, it requires a lot of practicing and a great connection between dancing partners. The base is formed by fast and wide stepping and closed positions lead by the movements of hips. Traditionally, the rhythm of tango music can be 2/4 or 4/4.
